A bedspread, or kapa, is a re-emerging type of covering for furniture used for sleeping, lounging and sitting, that is, mainly for beds and sofas. It works equally well in living rooms, as well as bedrooms, children’s rooms and youth rooms.

The right bedspread will enliven an overly ascetic and dreary room and add chic to any ordinary couch and simple bed. It is also an excellent patent for a metamorphosis in the interior without making renovations. A bedspread kept in a light color scheme is a method to brighten up the interior, while a dark bedspread provides an element of breakthrough for the light colors around.

While these days bedspreads are created industrially, on weaving looms, they used to be made by hand. They were mainly knitted from yarn or created using the patchwork method, that is, they were created by sewing small pieces of fabric together. Today they are rarely the work of our hands, which does not change the fact that they are becoming an increasingly sought-after commodity. Ready-made bedspreads for sofas and armchairs, as well as bedspreads for couches and beds, perfectly combine practical and aesthetic advantages.

Why a couch bedspread and bedspread is a good idea:

  • helps emphasize the style of the interior,
  • is a way to break the monotonous color scheme of the interior,
  • enlivens the atmosphere in the interior,
  • is a method to refresh an old piece of furniture, delays its replacement with a newer model,

  • is a simple patent for changing the interior design without the need for a renovation or a thorough metamorphosis of the arrangement,
  • is extremely practical and convenient for everyday use,
  • protects against rubbing the seat and armrests of the furniture,

Sofa bedspread – complementing the arrangement and shielding it from dirt. What to suggest when choosing a bedspread for a sofa or sofa bed?

The bedspread extends the life of the furniture and makes it much easier to keep clean. How do we choose a sofa bedspread that will meet our expectations? Although it’s easiest to go to a nearby store and put the first better model in the shopping cart, it’s worth spending a longer time on the purchase. If we want the bedspread to protect our furniture, fit into the character of the room and serve us well for a longer period of time, retaining its qualities, its choice should not be random.

What criteria to consider when buying a bedspread for a sofa or couch?

  • The purpose of the bedspread. It is worth considering whether the bedspread will serve us only to cover the furniture, or also fulfill the function of a blanket. Is it to be only a decoration, or is it to provide solid protection against dirt and damage to the furniture.
  • Utility qualities. If you have a sofa upholstered with leather or other slippery material, it is worth betting on a bedspread made of non-slip material or equipped with rubber bands, strings or other safety features to prevent the bedspread from slipping and moving. If someone in the house is allergic, it is worth betting on a bedspread made of material that dries quickly (this is a very practical solution if you often have to wash the bedspread). and non-accumulating dust, mites and microorganisms.
  • Attractive design. A sofa or couch bedspread covers the most important piece of furniture in the living room, has a substantial size and usually occupies a focal point in the room, so it easily catches the eye. It is also not uncommon for it to be the axis of the interior design. Therefore, we should bet on a very visually attractive product. It does not have to be characterized by bright colors or distinctive designs, if these are not to our taste. Subdued bedspreads can also be nice and striking.
  • Finishing. Many bedspreads, especially those of poor quality and from the lowest price sector, do not boast a careful, solid and aesthetically pleasing finish. And this is very important in terms of the durability of the product. So, when choosing a bedspread, instead of just glancing at its overall look, let’s look at the details! In particular, let’s pay attention to the quality of the hem. If this element is limp, it is very likely that the bedspread will quickly begin to rip and fray for us.
  • Material structure. Unlike curtains or tablecloths, the bedspread is the type of home textile that we come into frequent contact with. We sit or lie directly on it, so it should be pleasant to the touch, soft, cozy and should not cause irritation.
  • Thickness of the material. Some people opt for a year-round bedspread, while others change it depending on whether the autumn-winter or spring-summer season prevails. If you prefer the first option, it’s worth betting on a medium-thickness bedspread, one that won’t warm you up too much in hot weather. It should also be sturdy, long-lasting and resistant, so that it will last at least a few seasons. In favor of the second solution, for the warm season, let’s choose a bedspread made of thin fabric, airy and breathable, and for the cold season a thicker bedspread, with a tight weave, well accumulating heat, warming.
  • Dimensions. The right length and width are very important parameters of the bedspread. If you buy a bedspread that is too short and too narrow in relation to the furniture, it will slide off and make it difficult to use. On the other hand, a bedspread that is too long and too wide may be difficult to shape, and may also wrinkle, interfere with the comfort of sitting and resting, hang too much from the furniture and overlap the floor. So it is worth measuring your sofa and choosing a bedspread that is about 40 cm longer than the seat including the backrest and about 40 cm wider than the furniture.
  • The price of the bedspread. Price is an important selection criterion for most people. However, striving to minimize expenses as much as possible, it is not worth reaching for the lowest quality products, as it may turn out that thethat the item after a short period of time will not be suitable for further use and you will have to buy a new one, thus exposing yourself to another expense. Looking for an economical solution, it is worth looking at the middle price range and choose a bedspread thatthat is sturdy, durable, resistant, skin-friendly, does not fade, does not wrinkle, has a striking appearance, but at the same time does not cost a fortune.
  • Color and pattern. The bedspread should harmonize with the furniture itself, as well as the entire interior in terms of color. Try not to make too much of a mishmash when it comes to the color of the bedspread and the color of the walls (a bright red bedspread plus green walls will not necessarily be a good combination). On the other hand, it’s a good idea to use a light counterbalance element. If we have walls painted in a vivid color, a bedspread in a subdued shade will work well. Conversely, if the walls are kept in a dull, muted color, we can afford a more flamboyant color or pattern. What is worth noting, if we do not intend to cover the entire piece of furniture with a bedspread, but only part of it, but at the same time we want the bedspread to integrate strongly with the sofa and create a coherent whole with it, both elements should be in the same color scheme (the bedspread can possibly be 2-3 tones lighter or darker).

Double-sided bedspread – an interesting convenience for the practical and indecisive

Those who appreciate simple solutions and do not like monotony will probably be interested in a double-sided bedspread. It is also a good option for the indecisive.

Sofa and armchair bedspread

For owners of lounge sets, it may be better to buy a whole set of bedspreads instead of separately buying a bedspread for the couch and a bedspread for the armchairs. Sets in calm colors without flashy, prominent patterns work best. Too vivid an aesthetic for both the couch and the armchairs could be distracting and overwhelming.
